The Best Option
A short fiction film about AI, ethics and human choice
The Best Option is a short fiction film commissioned by the European Parliament in 2022, conceived as a cinematic tool to stimulate reflection and debate on artificial intelligence and human decision-making.

The story follows Mina, a young woman who seeks to improve her life through artificial intelligence. Encouraged by a mysterious AI specialist, she agrees to have a virtual assistant, Clara, implanted in her. While the system helps her fulfil her ambition of becoming a photographer, it gradually alters her personal relationships, particularly with Ben, her partner, who no longer recognizes her.

Through this restrained narrative framework, the film addresses broader European concerns related to AI-driven optimization, individual autonomy, and responsibility within institutional and social contexts. Designed for discussion rather than instruction, The Best Option has been widely screened at European and international conferences, academic settings, and public debates dedicated to artificial intelligence, ethics, and policy.
Context & Purpose
The Best Option was conceived as a tool for reflection and dialogue rather than a didactic statement.
The film is intended to support discussions on artificial intelligence in institutional, academic, and public contexts, addressing questions of delegation, optimization, and responsibility in contemporary societies.
